No one
puts on weight overnight. The ponds and inches get the better of us gradually
over months. True weight loss – loss of fat and not water or muscle mass – is
also gradual: about 1-2 pounds a week. Slow & steady weight loss is
healthier and easier to maintain. Weight lost quickly is likely to return in a
little while.
Over the
year s, our stomach stretches to accommodate the amount of food we usually eat.
It takes time for the stomach to shrink, and give the feeling of satiety or
‘fullness’ after a smaller meal. We also need time to give up cravings for
foods that made us overweight in the first place. Moreover, overweight people
have a slower resting metabolism. You can increase this metabolic rate by
physical exercise; but again, this takes time.
