Eat fruits and vegetables one hour before doing your workouts and drink more water after doing the workout. After finishing the workout don't eat bread, rice, cereal, potatoes, pasta, and fried foods. If you avoid these items you will be fit.

For me I prefer eating food after the workout. It is because I build up a good appetite in doing so.

One glass of milk and some bananas before the workout, followed by dalia (cereal) and/or bolied egg white. Fresh fruit juice is good as well, but give some gap after the workout.

Yes,a proper gap is must between your meals and your workout. It is very important, that you have light diet, you can have some juicy fruit it will take care of water that you lose during your workout. Give it a time to digest and then go ahead with your workout.Gap is equally required afterwards also. You can sip water during your workouts.A glass of milk, boiled eggs can give you  an instant boost, after you are done with your exercise.I prefer this pattern for my daily routine. You need to strike a balance, neither you starve nor you hog.

Re: how u prefer to eat before/after workout..?

After a workout is THE MOST important time to eat.  Especially in the form of a quick digestible, like a protein shake.  The body is starving for nutrients after a good workout and is ready to absorb them like crazy.  If your looking to maintain performance and pack on muscle mass you absolutely have to take in food after a workout, or your efforts will not be optimal, may even go to waste, and might even set yourself up for overtraining and injury due to improper repair of the muscles.

Have a good balance of complex carbs (banana) prior workout and lots of proteins after the workout to let your body grow..
