    Good Footwear

I think people that come to a gym often forget the most important piece of equipment. Good footwear can not be overlooked. You can buy some decent workout shoes at pretty reasonable costs if you really look for them. However, the $3.00 little flip flops just make it a danger to be working out. You should buy a shoe that is not too tight or too loose. Wear them around the house awhile to allow a little breaking in, but be wary of wearing them outside and then getting on the gym's equipment. That is terrible for the gym equipment. Also, be sure the shoes you are planning to wear, have a tread to allow you traction on machines. I have seen so many people with poor footwear get anything from blisters to much worse things like sprains, strains and even a break. The best piece of equipment in any gym is good footwear.

I couldn't agree more with you on this particular topic. I have always worn one of two brands of workout shoes. I either wear Reeboks or New Balance. They both have great support and treads in them and they hold up for a long time. They cost a little more, but last a lot longer and save on injury. Also, right along with this is good hiking boots if you do the trails. I have seen way too many twisted ankles in my time.

Oh, have you seen someone working out wearing flip flops? That is just so wrong! Haha.

Anyway, I agree with you. I've seen some girls wearing flat shoes (I guess they call it ballet flats) while jogging. I'm sure they'll get blisters or worse they might get injured.

    Re: Good Footwear

this is really good information.  a few years ago i was running a LOT and i developed shin splints.  this was one of the most miserable things ive ever had to deal with.  eventually they went away and i saw an orthopedist to see about how to prevent them in the future.  he told me the most important thing i could do was buy a good pair of running shoes and also suggested some custom insoles.  since then i have had zero complications.
