    What Constitutes a Workout?

I don't tend to count the things I do for recreation as a workout. For instance, this time of year I do a lot of swimming and playing in the yard with nieces and nephews, but I am not focused necessarily on improving my fitness. It is more for fun. Do you count activities like that as a workout or only when you are completely focused on the working out?  I usually just figure it is extra.

To me, a workout is anytime I burn calories at a rate that is more than normal. That being said, I try to be sure I get a certain number of "Intense Workouts" in each week in which I am more focused. Don't discount the time you spend doing those other things. Count them and give yourself credit, you could have been laying around watching television.

Really it's whenever you are doing exercise, but I consider a workout to be usually a minimum of 30 minutes, often at least 1 hour of cardio / weight training.

Work out the term may differ from individual to individual. An old man would say his workout is a brisk walk or a jogg. A young energetic teenager would say it is about an hour or two spent in the gym and a female would say its her aerobic classes. So it differs from individual to individual. It depends on you what suits you and what you enjoy doing.
